North Florida Community College named a “2016 Great College to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education
NFCC recognized in nine categories and named to “Great Colleges to Work For” Honor Roll
MADISON, FL – North Florida Community College is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a top trade publication for colleges and universities.
The results, released this week in The Chronicle’s ninth annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of 281 colleges and universities and direct employee feedback from those institutions. Only 93 of the surveyed institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition. This is the first year NFCC participated in the survey.
NFCC was honored among institutions with 2,999 students or less and received additional distinction by being named to The Chronicle’s Honor Roll of “2016 Great Colleges to Work For.”
NFCC landed a spot on the Honor Roll for achieving high marks in nine categories that reflect best practices and policies of great colleges. The College was specifically recognized for achievement in the following categories:
- Collaborative Governance
- Confidence in Senior Leadership
- Facilities, Workspace & Security
- Job Satisfaction
- Professional/Career Development Programs
- Respect and Appreciation
- Supervisor/Department Chair Relationship
- Teaching Environment (Faculty Only)
- Work/Life Balance
“North Florida Community College employees care about the work they do, the people they work with and the integrity of the institution as a whole,” said NFCC President John Grosskopf. “This recognition speaks volumes about our campus, employees and the extraordinary work environment that we enjoy here at NFCC. Visitors regularly comment on our welcoming environment and our friendly, helpful faculty and staff. We are proud to offer NFCC employees a variety of avenues to enrich their lives personally and professionally through access to the arts, health and wellness programs, an outstanding benefits package, and professional collaboration within the Florida College System and beyond.”
The Chronicle’s Great Colleges to Work For survey is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. Now in its ninth year, it recognizes the colleges that get top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies.
“Nine years in, The Chronicle’s Great Colleges to Work For program is well known as a mark of a college or university that puts thought and effort into serving the needs of its faculty and staff,” said Liz McMillen, editor of The Chronicle. “The colleges and universities that make the list are highly rated by their employees for creating great working environments, an important achievement that helps them recruit top academic and administrative talent.”
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback. To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.
“It’s easier to be a great workplace during good times, but it’s when times are tough that the commitment to workplace quality really gets tested,” said Richard K. Boyer, principal and managing partner, ModernThink LLC. “And those institutions that measure up during times of economic hardship reinforce their already strong cultures and put even more distance between them and their peer institutions for whom they compete for talent.”
