Students explore college and careers
NFC 2020 Career and Transfer Fair draws over 500 to campus
MADISON, FL (January 14, 2020) - Close to 500 high school students attended the North Florida College Career and Transfer Fair on Jan. 14. Now in its second year, the event encourages current NFC students to explore their next step to a university or job while sharing valuable information about NFC programs and their connection to area jobs and universities with potential students.
“We hope the event plants a few seeds for our future workforce, peeks interest in career paths, and helps our current and future students make informed decisions about their next step,” said Rick Davis, Associate Dean of Economic Development and Workforce Education at NFC.
District high schools were invited to tour the NFC Career and Workforce Education building before attending the Career and Transfer Fair in the Colin P. Kelly Fitness Center gymnasium. The high school students explored programs, classrooms, simulation and training labs, and got to ask instructors questions about training and careers. Once at the fair, students had direct access to NFC advisors, area universities and employers.
“The Career Fair gave me the chance to ask questions and get information from potential future employers,” said Emery Wilkerson, a senior at James Madison Preparatory High School and NFC dual enrollment student. “It was impressive to see how many job opportunities are available.”
This year, 12 universities and 18 area employers and businesses participated in the fair.
“The NFC Career and Transfer Fair is an excellent opportunity to connect with students across our area,” said Tri-County Electric Cooperative Community Relations Director Kaitlyn Culpepper. “Getting to talk with them one on one about not only the opportunities available to them at the co-op but also about what they are looking for in a future career or employer is invaluable.”
