Russian String Orchestra Performs Feb. 3 at NFCC

NFCC Artist Series welcomes some of Russia’s most talented string players to the Van H. Priest Auditorium stage this Friday

MADISON, FL - The North Florida Community College Artist Series welcomes the famous Russian String Orchestra to the Van H. Priest Auditorium stage on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. The orchestra is comprised of some of Russia’s most talented young string players and critics rave “the orchestra’s warmth and high energy create addictive performances that stay with listeners long after the last note has been played!”

Founded in 1991, the orchestra has carved a niche for itself under the creative baton of its founder and music director Misha Rachlevsky. With an extensive discography and touring history, the Russian String Orchestra’s impressive span of repertoire is reflected in the upcoming NFCC performance with compositions by Rossini, Eskender Bekmambetov’s “For Misha’s Gang,” Schnauber’s “In Memory of Henry Temianka,” and Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden.”

The orchestra has performed nearly 2,000 concerts across the world, including Moscow and tours in 24 countries in Europe, North and South America and the Far East. They have graced the NFCC stage twice in the last two decades, with performances at Van H. Priest Auditorium in February 2001 and March 2005. The orchestra prides itself on offering interesting and unique programs and is looking forward to returning to the NFCC stage for another outstanding performance and night to remember.

The orchestra’s music has received widespread international acclaim including the Diapason d’Or award in France, Critics Choice in London’s Gramophone, Critics Choice in The New York Times, and Record of the Year award in Hong Kong. Of about 1000 compositions in the orchestra’s repertoire, over 20 were written especially for the orchestra by composers from Russia, Europe and the USA.
