North Florida Community College named a “2017 Great College to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education
NFCC recognized in seven categories and named to “Great Colleges to Work For” Honor Roll for second year in a row.
MADISON, FL – North Florida Community College is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a top trade publication for colleges and universities.
This is the second consecutive year NFCC has earned inclusion in The Chronicle’s “Great Colleges to Work For” rankings.
The results, recently released in The Chronicle’s tenth annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of 232 colleges and universities and direct employee feedback from those institutions. Only 80 of the surveyed institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition.
NFCC was honored among institutions with 2,999 students or less and received additional distinction by being named to The Chronicle’s Honor Roll of “2017 Great Colleges to Work For.”
NFCC landed a spot on the Honor Roll for achieving high marks in seven categories that reflect best practices and policies of great colleges. The College was specifically recognized for achievement in the following categories:
Facilities/Workspace/Security
Collaborative governance
Job satisfaction
Professional/Career Development Programs
Respect and Appreciation
Supervisor/Department Chair Relationships
Work/Life Balance
“North Florida Community College employees care about the work they do, the people they work with and the integrity of the institution as a whole,” said NFCC President John Grosskopf. “This recognition speaks volumes about our campus, employees and the extraordinary work environment that we enjoy here at NFCC. Visitors regularly comment on our welcoming environment and our friendly, helpful faculty and staff. We are proud to offer NFCC employees a variety of avenues to enrich their lives personally and professionally through access to the arts, health and wellness programs, an outstanding benefits package, and professional collaboration within the Florida College System and beyond.”
NFCC also received special recognition in the Best Practices category for an active listening effort implemented by President Grosskopf and the NFCC Employee Services Department. The initiative was comprised of one-on-one discussions with college employees in which each interviewee was asked for suggestions for improving campus life, work environment and college performance. The responses were then summarized and presented anonymously to the President.
The Chronicle’s Great Colleges to Work For survey is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. Now in its tenth year, it recognizes the colleges that get top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies.
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback. To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.
