NFC named “2021 Great College to Work For”
North Florida College Makes Great Colleges Honor Roll for Six Years Straight
MADISON, FL (October 6, 2021) - For six consecutive years, North Florida College has been named one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For® program.
The 2021 results, just released in a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of 196 colleges and universities across the U.S. In all, 70 of the 196 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies.
NFC won honors in five categories this year:
- Compensation and Benefits
- Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging
- Faculty and Staff Well-being
- Job Satisfaction and Support
- Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness
NFC was also named to the Great Colleges Honor Roll, a status granted to only 42 colleges each year who are highlighted most across the recognition categories. This is NFC's sixth year receiving the prestigious honor roll designation. Among the smaller colleges and universities recognized, with less than 3000 students, NFC boasted the second highest number of years receiving recognition and honor roll status.
NFC also stood out as one of only five higher-learning institutions, despite enrollment size, recognized in Florida and is the only Florida College System institution to be named a 2021 Great Colleges to Work For®.
“I have always considered NFC a great place to work, and it is great to know that our faculty and staff feel the same,” said NFC President John Grosskopf. “Providing a positive, supportive and rewarding work environment is essential to ensuring NFC employees feel valued and in return provide the best services and opportunities to our students. We are so proud to stand out as one of the best colleges to work for in Florida and the nation.”
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
"I witness extraordinary levels of teamwork, support and respect across the NFC campus on a daily basis," said Grosskopf. "The Sentinel family really does stand together and I am proud to see them recognized for creating such a positive work environment. And to be recognized as a stand-out place to work for the sixth straight year, that's outstanding.”
The Great Colleges to Work For® program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country.
The employee survey underwent a number of changes this year, including the addition of 11 new survey statements, some of which are related to new survey themes around diversity, inclusion and belonging, as well as faculty and staff well-being. New survey demographics related to gender identity and remote work were also included this year. In accordance with the survey changes, the recognition categories for the program were also updated this year to better reflect current patterns and methodologies in employee engagement in higher education.
