Mother, Son Awarded A.A. Degree from NFCC
Angela Eastabrooks and son Gabe Miller graduate college together, honored among NFCC Class of 2017
MADISON, FL (December 12, 2017) – Angela Eastabrooks, Member Service Specialist at Tri-County Electric Cooperative, graduated with an Associate in Arts degree from North Florida Community College in December. Moments after walking across the stage to accept her diploma, she had the opportunity to watch her son Gabe accomplish the same milestone. Angela and Gabe both received an A.A. degree and were honored among NFCC’s Class of 2017 on Dec. 12 at Van H. Priest Auditorium.
“Both of my children [Gabe, 20 and McKenzie, 18] were at the age where they had to start making big decisions about their future,” said Angela. “I wanted them both to graduate from college and I knew if I was going to encourage them to do it, then I needed to do it as well.”
Angela has worked at TCEC for almost 19 years, the majority of Gabe’s life. Gabe grew up in the co-op and became an ambassador for TCEC after serving on the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour during his junior year of high school.
As the Member Service Specialist, Angela has many responsibilities at TCEC ranging from assisting new and existing members with understanding their energy use, analyzing meter data, establishing payment arrangements, collection processes, financial support, service orders and managing work schedules for Member Service Representatives.
NFCC’s hybrid classroom allowed Angela to maintain her full-time work schedule while attending classes on campus one night a week and completing the other coursework online. Her AA degree accompanied with her NRECA supervisory certification will better equip her to serve TCEC members.
“Gabe and I are so thankful for all the support and encouragement from our family and the NFCC faculty,” said Angela. “It is definitely a tremendous accomplishment for us both to graduate and walk in commencement at the same time. It has been a long journey for me, but everything aligned and we finished together.”
Angela’s daughter McKenzie is a current student at NFCC and will graduate in May.
